The Miami Marlins have traded RHP prospect Justin Sterner and cash considerations to the Tampa Bay Rays for RHP David Hess.
David Hess
Hess, 27, is a Pembroke Pines native. The 27-year-old did not appear in the majors for the Rays. But from 2018 to 2020, Hess made 47 major league appearances (33 starts) for the Baltimore Orioles. He totaled 190 1/3 innings, earning a 5.86 ERA with a 16.8 percent strikeout rate.
This year with the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Rays), Hess has a 2.81 ERA over 32 innings. Overall, Hess is a solid, fly ball pitcher who can help improve Miami’s pitching staff.
Justin Sterner
Sterner, 24, moved from Single-A (Jupiter) to High-A (Beloit) this season. In 20.1 innings (12 relief appearances) between the two clubs, Sterner posted a 3.54 ERA and 0.98 WHIP.
