Marlins Lose to Blue Jays, Offense Continues to Struggle

The Miami Marlins lost their third game in a row and second straight to the AL East’s Toronto Blue Jays by a final of 3-1 on Wednesday. It was another great pitching day for Miami, led by Trevor Rogers. But yet again, it was spoiled by the lifeless offense that has plagued the team this year.

Game Recap

Trevor Rogers started for the Marlins and while not his typical self, pitched fine for the team. He gave up three runs across five innings, including an early two-run double to Bo Bichette. This, along with six strikeouts, was a big enough hole for the Marlins as they could only level a mousefart level of offense against Toronto’s pitching staff. Robbie Ray pitched well for the Blue Jays, with his only mishap coming with a Starling Marte solo home run in the sixth. However, that was all Ray would give up on the day as he would go six innings. He also struck out six Marlins on route to his fifth win of the year. The team would threaten in the bottom of the ninth inning. However, it ended with them stranding the tying run on base. This, with catcher Jorge Alfero striking out to end the game, racked up another loss for Miami.

No Way Out?

The Marlins had their seasonal woes continue on Wednesday as they blew another night of good pitching with a lack of any offense to support it. The teams above them in the NL East, still led by the New York Mets, continue riding good waves. Meanwhile, the Marlins now fall back into nine games out of first. This begs a serious question at the moment. Do the Miami Marlins have any shot at escaping the hell in a cell known as last place? At this point, despite being one of the best pitching teams in all of baseball, that answer seems to be a resounding no.
