Moritz (Moe) Wagner has finally resurfaced on the waters of Orlando, signing for the rest of the season with the deprecated Orlando Magic. This makes it his third NBA team of the season, and his fourth after being drafted just three years ago.
Moritz Wagner’s History
Moritz Wagner was originally drafted by the Lakers in 2018. He played a single season there before he was traded in the offseason to Washington. There is where the former Michigan standout had his best season to date. He averaged about nine points with three rebounds and an assist per game. During this season, Wagner averaged seven points and three rebounds during his time with the Wizards (25 games and 13 starts). His production took a steep drop, however, during his time with the Boston Celtics. There, he averaged a single point with two rebounds (nine games and no starts).
His Role with the Magic
Wagner will likely fit in at perhaps the starting center position during Wendell Carter’s off-days but mostly likely, in the backup center role. Wagner will wear No. 21 with the team and his brother, Franz, is a protected first round pick during the NBA Draft which comes up this summer.
Wagner’s Future Endeavour’s
Wagner’s future with the last-place Orlando Magic is uncertain due to this season now being lost. However, a return should not be ruled out. He has size and the potential to make a true big man impact off the bench. This comes with his ability to knock down the jumper and his ability to be a proven commodity.
