Miami Dolphins 2021 Free Agency Tracker

Yup, that’s right. Even the Miami Dolphins have made some major moves in the early stages of free agency. The franchise wasted no time in using their impressive cap space for improvement, as multiple free agents have already decided to take their talents to South Beach. With the third pick and an improving team, it sure looks like the Dolphins have what it takes to make the playoffs next year.

Michael Palardy, P

The Miami Dolphins have signed Punter Michael Palardy to a one-year deal. Matt Haack, who was the Dolphins punter for the last four seasons, left in Free Agency and signed with the Buffalo Bills. But now the Dolphins have a replacement.

Michael Palardy, 28, has played the majority of his career on the Carolina Panthers. Palardy hasn’t had great numbers over his career, and is coming off a torn ACL, making this a risky signing for the Dolphins front office.

Cethan Carter TE, FB

In an effort to improve their arsenal of offensive weapons, the Dolphins signed Cethan Carter to a three-year deal worth worth $8.75 million ($2.7 million guaranteed). The former Cincinnati Bengals tight end played a career high 220 snaps last season, hauling in only 5 receptions for 53 yards. With that being said, Carter has seen a majority of his playing time come on the special teams side of the football with the Bengals, as he still managed to participate in 30 games over the last two years.

Vince Biegel, LB

The Dolphins re-signed Vince Biegel to a one-year deal worth $920,000 and a possible opportunity to earn up to $137,500 incentives. Biegel, who joined the Dolphis organization in 2019, missed the 2020 season due to an Achilles injury from Dolphins training camp. Prior to his injury, Biegel played in 15 games for the Dolphins in 2019, starting in 10 of those. He tallied 59 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits, and one interception in that tenure.

Jacoby Brissett, QB

Yes, we all get it. Losing Ryan Fitzpatrick as the backup quarterback stinks. Fitzmagic brings a different type of aura to every team he plays for, no matter how mediocre he actually is.

However, bringing in Jacoby Brissett should ensure the Dolphins of the much needed quarterback depth they were looking for. The former Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback signed a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million ($5 million guaranteed) with incentives. In his career, Brissett has thrown for 6,459 yards and 31 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. Expect the former third-round draft pick to serve as a mentor to Tua Tagovailoa, as the Dolphins need someone with experience to guide the young quarterback, like Ryan Fitzpatrick did last year.

Malcolm Brown, RB

The Dolphins have agreed to terms with RB Malcolm Brown, although the official terms are not known yet. The former Los Angeles Rams RB joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and played the entirety of his six-year career with the franchise. The 27-year-old played arguably the best season of his career last year, as he tallied 419 rush yards and five rushing touchdowns. In his overall career, Brown has rushed for over 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns in 70 games played.

Justin Coleman, CB

CB Justin Coleman signed a one-year deal worth $2.75 million with the Dolphins in free agency. The former Detroit Lion has tallied a combined 211 tackles, 2 sacks, and 4 interceptions in his NFL tenure. Although his stats do not qualify as particularly impressive, Coleman should offer some much needed depth for the Dolphins in the secondary as a nickel cornerback.

Adam Butler, DT

The Dolphins signed DT Adam Butler to a two-year deal worth up to $9.5 million. Butler, who has spent his entire career in New England, played under a Brian Flores led defense on the Patriots only a few years ago. In 2020, the former undrafted free agent tallied 34 combined tackles and 4 sacks. Even though Butler is departing from New England, he should feel right at home in Miami.

Robert Foster, WR

Buffalo Bills v New York Jets

The Miami Dolphins signed former Bills and WFT WR Robert Foster. The speedy 26-year-old averaged 20.1 yards per catch in his limited NFL opportunities. Foster also played alongside Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama in 2017. There is no guarantee that Foster makes the roster, but Tua has at least one former teammate to throw to in training camp.

Matt Skura, C

Former Ravens Center Matt Skura is headed to the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal. The former Duke athlete has played four seasons in the NFL, allowing one sack on 656 snaps in 2020, with only three penalties (one holding, two false starts).

According to PFF, Skura had a 50.3 overall grade in 2020. But in 2019, Skura had a much better 68.7 overall grade, allowing one sack and two penalties on 717 snaps.

Will Fuller, WR

The Miami Dolphins signed speedy and talented WR Will Fuller to a one-year deal worth over $10 million. Fuller, who is coming off his best season, had 53 receptions for 879 yards in 11 games last year.

Departures in Free Agency: P Matt Haack (Bills), NT Davon Godchaux (Patriots), QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Washington), C Ted Karras (Patriots)…
