Marvin Jones Signs With Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Jaguars have struck while the free agency iron is hot, this time in the form of a new wide receiver. On Tuesday afternoon, the Jaguars signed Marvin Jones to a two-year contract, worth $14.5 million, with $9.2 million fully guaranteed.

Marvin Jones

Marvin Jones, who recently turned 31, has played his last five seasons with the Detroit Lions, and four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Jones is coming off a career-year in 2020 with Detroit, catching a career-high 76 passes and 9 touchdowns. He also played in all 16 games for the Lions, showing no signs of slowing down despite his advancing age.

Jones’ Role With the Jaguars

Jones will likely slot in as the number one or number two wide receiver for Jacksonville in the upcoming season, with Trevor Lawrence likely to be the quarterback throwing to him following the 2021 NFL Draft. With the Jaguars coming off a very poor 1-15 season, the new acquisition of Jones will look to put Jacksonville back on track. Other notable offensive signings so far for the Jags include RB Carlos Hyde, WR Phillip Dorsett and, TE Chris Manhertz, among many others.

The Jaguars are perhaps not done, however, as they have been tied to several players in free agency such as offensive tackle Trent Williams. We’ll just have to see what the future holds for Jacksonville, but as of now, GM Trent Baalke seems to be doing a fantastic job.
