The Buccaneers Are Headed to Super Bowl 55

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon to advance to the Super Bowl. Tampa Bay, lead by Tom Brady, will be the first team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl at their home stadium.

A Long Path

In 2019-2020, the Buccaneers finished 7-9, with a #29 ranked defense. But in 2020-2021, the Buccaneers were a whole different team. In the offseason, the Bucs made a dramatic change, getting a new QB and a ton of other new players. This all lead to the ultimate result, an appearance in Super Bowl 55. It wasn’t easy as the Buccaneers had to beat three teams in the playoffs, while all on the road (WFT, Saints, and Packers).

Buccaneers

In a game without Antonio Brown, the Buccaneers passing game was in full-stride. Chris Godwin had 110 yards on 5 receptions. Also, Mike Evans, Scotty Miller and Cameron Brate all had a receiving TD. Even though Tom Brady threw 3 touchdowns, it wasn’t his best game as he threw 3 interceptions on 36 pass attempts (20 completed).

For the Buccaneers defense, they had 5 total sacks, with 3 of them coming from Shaquil Barrett. Also, Sean Murphy-Bunting had an interception for the Bucs.

Packers

For the Packers offense, Aaron Jones only had 6 rushes for 27 yards before having a chest injury during the first drive of the second half. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers threw for 346 yards on 3 touchdowns, with 1 interception. In the passing game, Marquez Valdes-Scantling was the Packers leading receiver. He had 115 yards and a touchdown on 4 catches.

The Packers defense failed to put on pressure, only sacking Brady once. But on the positive side, top cornerback Jaire Alexander had 2 interceptions and Adrian Amos had 1.

Conclusion

The Buccaneers completed the upset and beat the likely MVP winner Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Tom Brady will make his 10th Super Bowl Appearance, but the first without Bill Belichick and the Patriots. For the Buccaneers franchise, this will be the team’s second Super Bowl appearance, looking for their second Super Bowl win.

So set your calendars for February 7th at 6:30 PM, when the Buccaneers take on Kansas City.
