Trent Baalke Named Jaguars GM

The new ERA has arrived for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it starts with a remake of the front office and staff. Urban Meyer was named HC. And now the Jaguars have hired their new GM of the future: Trent Baalke.

Trent Baalke

Trent Baalke has officially been named General Manager of the Jaguars. Baalke has tons of NFL Front Office experience. In 1998, he started off as a scout for the New York Jets. Fast forwarding to 2011, Baalke was named the GM of the 49ers, until getting fired after 6 seasons. Baalke actually won executive of the year in 2011. Then in 2020, the Jags hired him. He started off as a director of player personnel, and then was named interim GM after the firing of Dave Caldwell.

Baalke has had tons of ups and downs, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2012, and three straight NFC Championship appearances. Baalke has produced 24 All-Pro selections and 35 Pro Bowlers during his time in San Francisco. But Baalke has also dealt with tons of hate, specifically when drafting WR A.J Jenkins in the first round. Jenkins was one of the biggest draft busts in NFL History, only playing 3 seasons with 227 total yards.

Conclusion

The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the NFL in cap space and have the #1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. This leaves tons of room for change, which makes Baalke’s job much more important. Baalke’s biggest expectation is to draft the QB of the future in Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is very special, and is one of the best draft prospects we have seen in a while.
