On Monday afternoon, the NFL announced the Pro Bowl roster. For the Florida teams, two players were selected to be a Pro Bowler, while a big name got snubbed.
Buccaneers Pro Bowler: Jason Pierre-Paul
Jason Pierre-Paul had a stellar year this year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Providing the defense with 2 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, and 9.5 sacks. He is tied for 4th in the league in fumbles, he is sixth in the league in sacks, and his two interceptions are a career-high. Overall, Jason Piere Paul has provided the Bucs with much-needed defense at the linebacker position. This is Pierre-Paul’s 3rd Pro Bowl appearance, with the others being in 2011 and 2012.
Dolphins Pro Bowler: Xavien Howard
Xavien Howard has been named to his 2nd Pro Bowl. Howard is having a terrific year and has been arguably the best CB in 2020, leading the league with 9 interceptions. To put this into perspective, Xavien Howards 9 interceptions are the most in a regular-season since 2009. That’s when Time Jennings had 9. If he logs an interception in both his last two games, he will accomplish an amazing feat. He will have the most since 1981, 39 years ago. It’s insane that he is doing this and it is surely going to take effect if the Miami Dolphins make the playoffs.
Biggest Snub: James Robinson
James Robinson was by far the biggest Florida Pro Bowl snub this year. He played amazing and carried the worst team in the league on the ground. His 1070 rushing yards are the third-best in the entire league and he’s averaging 4.4 rushing yards per carry. The most impressive thing about all this is that he’s an undrafted rookie and shows talent that is unmatched by any rookie. Despite not making the Pro Bowl this year, he is certainly a find for a Jacksonville Jaguars team that needs all the help it can get.
Other Snubs: Devin White, Shaquil Barrett and Emmanuel Ogbah
While Jason Pierre-Paul made the Pro Bowl, his other two teammates got snubbed. Shaquil Barrett has eight sacks, two forced fumbles, 52 tackles and 15 quarterback hits, deserving of a Pro Bowl. Barrett also ranks third in the NFL in disruptions with 64, and second in the entire league in turnovers caused by QB pressures (six). There can even be an argument that Barrett was more deserving than Pierre-Paul. Paul has made more highlights rather than a consistent impact. Devin White was also snubbed. White ranks 3rd in the NFL with 87 solo tackles. White also has 8 sacks, tied for 12th in the NFL.
Emmanuel Ogbah was another big snub. Ogbah was signed by the Miami Dolphins this offseason, coming from the Super Bowl champs. Ogbah is tied for 9th in the NFL with 9 sacks, and is also tied for 9th with 3 forced fumbles.
