James Robinson, the UDFA Wonder

Jaguars RB James Robinson has been doubted a lot in his career, but it hasn’t stopped him from becoming a star RB, and already an X-Factor for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

College

Robinson rushed for 3,189 yards, received for 244, and added 31 total touchdowns in his two years starting at Illinois St. He still was not selected in the NFL draft, because Illinois St. is more of a small school and they don’t have good competition. He was terrific, and his stat line showed it, but went unnoticed in the draft. Robinson added a 297 yard and 1 td performance against Southeast Missouri St. Obviously it isn’t good competition, but insane numbers nevertheless.

NFL

Robinson was signed after the draft, as a UDFA. The Jaguars gave him a chance to start, after they cut former 1st rd pick, Leonard Fournette. This year Robinson has rushed for 580 yards good for 6th in the league, 225 receiving, and had 7 total touchdowns. He also is only halfway through the season, and there is a good chance he hits 1,000 rushing yards. Robinson has done this all with a well below average O-Line. He also has added a big impact receiving this year. His best game has been against the Chargers, where he put up 119 rushing yards and 2 total TD’s. He’s been terrific, and a bright spot where the Jags have only won a game.

What to Expect Going Forward

There’s no debating that Robinson has been a great RB. If he continues this production, Jacksonville likely won’t draft a top RB among the likes of Etienne, Harris, and Hubbard. He also will need to continue being a factor as a receiver. Last, expect him to continue to produce, especially with a top drafted QB likely coming to Jacksonville next year. He can be a star for years to come, on a team with a bright future.
