The Orlando Magic and Walt Disney World announced the continuation of their long-time partnership with a special event Monday in the Kia Center. Orlando is just one of two teams to still have its original jersey patch sponsor since the launch in 2017.
“If you think about all of the NBA partnerships, Walt Disney World and the Orlando Magic, I don’t think you can think of a better partner to have on our jersey,” Orlando Magic President Charles Freeman said. “They are such a great community partner; we love everything that they stand for and what they do.”
Before becoming a jersey sponsor, Walt Disney World had worked closely with the Magic and became an official Champion of the Community partner in 2010. While details of the deal were not disclosed, Freeman said Disney is going to be with the team for “quite some time.”
“This partnership is more than a logo or a sponsorship; this is really about creating magical memories that last a lifetime,” Disney World President Joe Schott said. “Having Disney on a Magic uniform is the best of both worlds. And of course, I am a huge Magic fan, so it makes it even better.”
As part of the renewed partnership, Disney Imagineers helped design and create a new mural at the Walt Disney World Atrium in the Kia Center. The new art piece features all four Disney parks, the two water parks, and Disney Springs, with projections bringing the piece to life.
“When we started the project, we had a broad list of the obvious [landmarks], like Spaceship Earth, the Tree of Life, [Cinderella] Castle,” Disney Design Director Eric Tan said. “Then, we started to think together and collaborate on what else we could fill it with to give the full experience of each and every park and how they fit without repetition.”
Fans can experience the new atrium starting on October 13 when the Magic take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first home preseason game.
