With the Big-12 Tournament right around the corner, the UCF Knights were in a great position heading into the ninth inning up 4-2 against the Baylor Bears.
However, UCF closer Dominic Castellano gave up two runs and walked two batters in the inning. UCF had two of their three errors in the ninth, one of them resulting in another run for Baylor. To add insult to injury, the Bears scored two of their three ninth inning runs with two outs.
Heading into the bottom of the ninth down 5-4, UCF went three up, three down with a strikeout, ground out, and fly out. UCF went out in that fashion four times this game, while the Bears only did it twice.
Braden Calise was the spark for the Knights’ offense throughout the game, accounting for three of the team’s 10 hits in four at-bats. He also hit his lone RBI single in the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead that the Knights would hold onto for almost the rest of the game.
Throughout the contest, neither team seemed to get into a groove with it being a 2-1 ballgame through six innings. Both teams at least doubled their run total in the final three innings of the game, and even then both teams were giving up runs just as much as they were earning them with seven total errors between the two.
UCF will host Baylor again on May 16th in their final regular season game, as well as their last chance to make the Big-12 Tournament.
UCF will need to win their last game, and hope BYU drops one of their two for the Knights to march on to Dallas.
