Orlando Valkyries Hire François Salvagni as New Head Coach

The Orlando Valkyries named François Salvagni as the franchise’s new head coach on Monday. Salvagni, a former Serie A1 coach for Cuneo Granda Volley, brings championship experience to an Orlando team who failed to make the playoffs in 2026.

“We are super excited to welcome François to the great city of Orlando and begin the next chapter of Valkyries volleyball,” Valkyries President Erik Nilsen said in a press release. “François’s track record in competing in one of the best leagues in Italy made him an ideal fit for our organization. We couldn’t be happier to have someone like Francois lead this team both on and off the court.”

During his 30 years coaching volleyball, Salvagni has led teams in Italy, France, Romania, Azerbaijan, and Algeria. He was named a Ruffini Award winner as Italy’s top coach, as well as capturing multiple titles in France.

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to become the new head coach of the Orlando Valkyries,” Salvagni said in a press release. “From the very beginning, I felt the passion and energy surrounding this organization, and I can’t wait to bring a winning attitude, relentless work ethic, and a fearless competitive spirit to Orlando. I truly believe the strongest teams are built not only inside the gym, but together with their community. That’s why I’m looking forward to embracing the city, connecting with the fans, and building something special together.”

After making the playoffs and winning the 2025 MLV Championship, the Valkyries faltered in year three under coach Amy Pauly, mutually parting ways last week. Pauly was announced as the MLV director of player personnel & recruitment Monday, keeping her in the league.

The Valkyries hope to return to the playoffs in 2027 with a new coach and new roster.

“I expect the entire Orlando community to join us in writing a new story, a book whose chapters will be sacrifice, hard work, a winning mentality, and just a little bit of madness,” Salvagni said.
