Florida State Hosts Charleston Southern for Homecoming

Florida State welcomes Charleston Southern to Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday for the Seminoles’ 2024 homecoming game. The Seminoles, at 1-9 overall, have struggled to score points all season long. FSU has not won a game in over two months when the program defeated Cal 14-9. Just a few weeks ago, Mike Norvell announced the firings of both offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.

With the Seminoles dealing with injuries and being one of the worst offensive teams in the country, this game could be low scoring. Charleston Southern comes into Tallahassee with a 1-10 record. In 2024, FSU is 0-1 so far against non-conference opponents. However, the Seminoles will be playing an FCS team that struggles in every aspect of the game. Therefore, quarterback Brock Glenn having a solid game is definitely not out of the question for Saturday. But, expect to see backup Luke Kroemenhoek get reps as well.

In order for the Seminoles to get their second win of the season, the offense has to be on the same page from the start. Often this season, FSU has struggled out the gate to execute touchdown scoring drives early. On Saturday though, expect Florida State to attack the Charleston Southern defense through the air early and often. In the backfield, Lawrance Toafili is dynamic and explosive enough to elevate the running game and keep drives going.

From a defensive standpoint, FSU must keep Charleston Southern on their side of the field. The Noles have been a below average defensive team all season, coming off a blowout 52-3 loss at Notre Dame. But in facing an FCS opponent, Florida State should hold CSU to under 200 total yards. However, we have seen in year’s past an FCS school come into Doak and defeat the Seminoles. But that won’t be the case this weekend.

As the Noles get ready for the Sunshine Showdown at home next week against Florida, the team cannot overlook CSU. Rather, both sides of the ball have to play fundamentally sound football for a full 60 minutes and limit turnovers on offense.
