Georgia Tech upset No. 10 Florida State with the entire world watching as the Yellow Jackets outmuscled the Seminoles. While the internet has gone crazy ripping FSU QB DJ Uiagalelei, the team as a whole underperformed vastly. The player who just decided to vanish and not play and deserves even more criticism is Patrick Payton.
The next great edge rusher didn’t show up, and the next FSU first-round draft pick never got off the plane. Payton has received a ton of hype to keep the Noles’ defense rolling this year. He didn’t do anything. I mean he didn’t do a damn thing today. Part of that can be attributed to the Yellow Jackets’ game plan playing away from him, but Payton failed to even get into the backfield consistently and when Hayne King would run to the outside, he would beat Payton to the edge every time. If you’re supposed to be the most talented player on the team you have to show up and make a few plays in a game. In this tight of a ball game, one sack from him could have turned the tide and momentum of the game. It was pathetic and he needs to lock in as they play another heavy run team in Boston College next week.
Payton failed to record a notable stat. The only thing he did was assist on one tackle.
