Miami Drops 6th Straight Game, Falling to No. 8 Duke

On a chilly Wednesday night in Miami, the Duke Blue Devils came into town red hot winning their last five contests and 16 of their last 18 games. On the other hand, the Hurricanes were losers of their last five games.

From start to finish, Duke had their foot on the gas pedal as the Blue Devils won 84-55.

“It was a great team effort. It was a great team win,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer said postgame. “Ton of respect for Miami. I don’t care who’s playing for them. They have a talented team and they are more than dangerous at home especially.”

Kyle Filipowski and Mark Mitchell each had 15 points for the Blue Devils. They also helped contain Miami’s leading scorer this season Norchad Omier (17.8 PPG) to just nine points (3-14) and 10 rebounds.

“Very challenging, very frustrating and disappointing for everybody that loves Miami basketball,” Hurricanes coach Jim Larrañaga said. “It’s like climbing a mountain and keep slipping back.”

Miami is now limited in their NCAA tournament hopes to an ACC championship. The loss dropped Miami to 12th in the conference, a half game behind Boston College.
