Orlando, FL— A huge upset in Orlando as the UCF Knights take down #23 Oklahoma 74-63 at Addition Arena Saturday evening.
This win marks the second win over a ranked opponent (Kansas) for the Knights this season, and the first time they’ve done it since 2018-19. That season UCF would go on and advance to the NCAA Tournament and they got a win over VCU.
This win also marks a huge milestone for UCF’s Head Coach Johnny Dawkins as this is now win number 300 for the record books.
After a disappointing loss at home to Baylor on Wednesday, UCF bounced back in a big way as they were in total control of the game from the tip and they never let their foot off the gas pedal. Antwaan Jones, who made the second start of his career, got the game going for the Knights as he hit three early shots from deep and had nine early points to lead the way.
Defense helped lead the way for the Knights all evening and especially in that first half as they limited the Sooners to 27 points and just 1-5 shooting from three.
UCF’s Jaylin Sellers led all scorers with 20 points as he had a lot of highlight reel plays all evening. In the first half he had a steal and followed it up with a left wing three to get the crowd ignited, as well as a left handed slam prior to the half. UCF led Oklahoma 34-27.
It was all UCF in that second half as they recorded 12 steals on the evening leading to 16 fast break points and they took advantage of Oklahoma’s sloppy play. Ibrahima Diallo had a big time rejection that led to a turnover and he followed it up with an and-one layup over John Hugley IV.
Oklahoma would end the game on a 13-9 run in the last five minutes but it was too little, too late as UCF pulled out their fourth conference win of the season.
The Knights improved to 13-8 on the season and 4-5 in Big 12 play. UCF will have a week off before they hit the road to take on #15 Texas Tech next Saturday.
