On a warm sunny night in Tampa, Florida, the USF Bulls took on the University of South Carolina Upstate (USC-Upstate). In a back and forth game, the Bulls prevailed and won by a final score of 2-1 thanks to a walk-off hit. The crowd was electric from both sides from the start of the game to the end of the game.
Recap
To start off the match, and on the second pitch of the game, USC Upstate’s Center Fielder Denver Lauer launched a solo home run to deep left center field. USF starter Payton Dixon settled down the USC Upstate hitters after that, allowing no more runs while pitching seven strong innings, giving up only four hits and striking out seven batters.
The Bulls offense had chances throughout the game but could not get anything going… that was util the 7th inning when the Bulls had heavy pressure on the bases and after a game-tying single by pinch hitter Vivian Ponn, Haillie Bryant hit a fly ball to deep center field resulting in a sacrifice fly and a 2-1 BULLS VICTORY!!
Upstate’s Pitcher Alyssa Kelly did all she could to keep her team in the game. Kelly went six and two thirds strong innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run; the second (and game winning) run was a result of an error by the Upstate infield.
