Dennis Scott to Become 12th Player to be Inducted into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame

As stated by CEO Alex Martins, Orlando Forward Dennis Scott is set to be inducted into the Magic’s Hall of Fame. The date and time of Scott’s induction ceremony will be determined at a later date. In reference to this, Scott will become the 12th player to be introduced into Orlando’s Hall of Fame, joining co-founder Pat Williams (2014), current community ambassador Nick Anderson (2014), Shaquille O’Neal (2015), Rich DeVos (2016), Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway (2017), Jimmy Hewitt (2017), Tracy McGrady (2018), David Steele (2019), Darrell Armstrong (2020), John Gabriel (2022) and Brian Hill (2022).

“Dennis (Scott) still remains one of the elite, long-range shooters in both Orlando Magic and NBA history,” Martins said regarding Scott. “His ability to shoot from beyond the three-point arc was a major key to our success during his time in Orlando and his records stand to this day. We are proud to make Dennis the next inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame.”

Following a fantastic collegiate career at the University of Georgia Tech, Scott entered the 1990 NBA Draft, and was selected by the Magic with the No. 4 overall pick. From there, Scott would enjoy seven solid seasons in Orlando, averaging 30.7 MPG, 14.8 PPG, 3.1 RPG, and 2.3 APG while shooting 42.2% from the field and 40.3% from three-point range in 446 games. It’s worth noting that Scott lead the NBA with 82 games played during the 1990-1991 and 1993-1994 seasons.

Just two seasons after leading the NBA in games played, Scott set a then-NBA single season-record with 267 three-pointers made, which remains the franchise record for Orlando in a single season. During the same season, Scott converted on 11 three-pointers, breaking the NBA single game-record at the time on April 18th, 1996 versus Atlanta. Likewise, Scott’s 11 three-pointers also remain as Orlando’s franchise record for most made in a game. Scott also served as a pivotal piece on Orlando’s 1994-1995 team, which reached the NBA Finals, only to be swept by Hakeem Olajuwon and the defending Champion Houston Rockets.

In reference to his highly accurate three-point shooting, Scott remains the all-time leader in Orlando Magic History with 981 three-pointers. Entering the 2022-2023 NBA season, Scott also ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in three-point field goals attempted (second with 2,432), field goals attempted (seventh with 5,737), games played (eighth with 446), steals (eighth with 429), points scored (tenth with 6,603), field goals made (tenth with 2,421) and minutes played (tenth with 13,692).

The Orlando Magic Hall of Fame honors and celebrates the great players, coaches, and executives who have had a major impact during the team’s illustrious 34-year history. It bridges the past with the future of Magic basketball, and the exhibit, located in Amway Center on the terrace level near Nutrilite Magic Fan Experience, provides Magic fans an opportunity to learn some Magic history while in the building. The inductees are selected based on their overall on and off-the-court contributions to the team and organization, years of service, impact in the community, and general character of the individual.
