The Tampa Bay Lightning fell 3-2 to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Tampa Bay sits fourth in the Atlantic at 7-5-1. Edmonton shares the same win percentage, but owns an 8-6-0 record.
Game Recap
Tampa Bay started hot and was given a chance to strike with a power play 6:46 in. However, the wrong team scored, as Warren Foegele scored a short-handed goal after a bad Lightning turnover.
Last year’s deadline acquisition, Brandon Hagel, would not let the Oilers lead for long. A beautiful 3-on-2 zone entry set Brandon Hagel up to snap it home, making it 1-1. Tampa Bay would get another power play chance but they were unsuccessful once more. After one, the score was 1-1.
The second period saw many more penalties, but Mikhail Sergachev and Nikita Kucherov’s penalties early on proved to be hurtful. Connor McDavid continued his path of destruction for goal fourteen on the first power play, making it 2-1 Oilers. McDavid would then record his fifteenth assist on the season, helping Leon Draisaitl light the lamp, making it 3-1 Oilers. The Lightning had their share of chances too with three power play opportunities. They were unable to convert on any.
Tampa Bay brought the fight to start the third with Alex Killorn scoring 49 seconds in. Killorn tipped a Nick Perbix shot past Jack Campbell to give the Lightning hope. The game would flow back and forth until with eight minutes remaining, Pat Maroon scored to tie the game. Unfortunately, it would be found that Maroon traveled over the blue line too early. The goal was called back due to offsides, and Tampa Bay failed to score again. In the end, Edmonton left happy with the 3-2 win.
FL Teams Star of the Game
Brayden Point’s two point night is enough to earn him star of the game. Assisting both goals in just under twenty minutes of play, Point shined on national television.
