Cole Beasley Begins Practice After Recent Signing with Buccaneers

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley. He will begin his stint in Tampa in the practice squad. However, they have holes and injuries at the receiver spot. Due to this, Beasley will more than likely be elevated to the active roster for this weekend’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Beasley on signing with the Buccaneers, “I’ve been wanting to play with (Tom) Brady for a long time.”

The Buccaneers offense has not looked as sharp as it could be this year. On top of that, Chris Godwin’s hamstring injury is still keeping him out of practice and Julio Jones is still up in the air with knee problems. Mike Evans is also suspended for the game against the Packers due to the altercation with Saints’ safety Marshon Lattimore. These were valid reasons for the Bucs to go out and sign a seasoned veteran to the roster.

Beasley comes off a very productive season in Buffalo. He finished with 82 receptions for 693 yards and added a touchdown to the stat line. In 2020 with the Bills, he nearly had a 1,000 yard season as it was statically the best year of his 10-year career.

Besides the “Big 3” receivers Tampa Bay has (Jones, Evans, Godwin), there is a lack of experience. Jaelon Darden is a second year man out of North Texas. Russell Gage and Scotty Miller are in their fifth and fourth years in the NFL, respectively. Aside from fellow veteran Breshad Perriman, Beasley gives Brady and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich some more wisdom at the position level that is very battered at the moment.
