Tampa Bay Lightning Uniforms Through the Years

The Tampa Bay Lightning have incorporated the colors of blue, black, and white on the Tampa Bay uniform through 30 years of designs. That’s right, in case you did not know, the 2022-23 season will be the 30th year of Lightning hockey.

The NHL will reveal new reverse retro jerseys for all 32 teams in the 2022-23 season. This has many NHL fans, especially Tampa Bay Lightning fans, wondering what the new reverse retro might look like. The league initially rolled out the reverse retro concept during the 2020 season. The Lightning reverse retro was the 2004 Stanley Cup winning jerseys, but instead of them being black, the league used the blue that is on the current home jerseys.

Ideas have been circling as to what the new Tampa Bay Lightning reverse retro might be.  Could the league go back to a black jersey, like the disrupt the night third jerseys that the Lightning have worn on most Saturday home games the last three seasons? Or could Tampa Bay go for an even more retro look by using parts of the 1996-97 “Storm jersey” mixed with the current Lightning logo?

I personally love the black jerseys; whether it was the solid black with white shoulders and black pants combo that the team had till 2007, or the solid black in 2007-2010. The third jerseys over the years of “Bolts” diagonal across the chest or the recent disrupt the night ones have been fan favorites as well.

On the road, the Lightning currently have solid white with the centered Lightning logo that look sharp. Back in the 90’s through 2007, the team wore white jerseys that had black shoulders and black pants. Could this be a potential reverse retro look?

At FL Teams, we want to hear your opinion on this! What jersey of all time is your favorite? Are you a fan of the black third jerseys over the years? What colors do you want the reverse retros to be? Let us know!

  1. It may be different on the ice but on TV we see black uniforms flying around. We can’t see the numbers and can’t see the names. Therefore we have no clue who’s on the ice and who’s where.

    Absolutely hate the black uniforms
