The big question of the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline has been answered.
A 10-season captain and seven-time All-Star, Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux has been traded to the Florida Panthers. Along with Giroux, forward Connor Bunnaman will be headed down to South Florida as part of the trade.
In return, Panthers right-winger Owen Tippett will be heading up to Philadelphia. Florida will also be sending the Flyers a 2024 first-round pick and 2023 third-round pick. Philly will be retaining 50% of Giroux’s salary.
Claude Giroux, 34, was drafted 22nd overall in the 2006 Entry Draft by the Flyers. After splitting time between the Phantoms and the Flyers, he joined the Flyers full-time during the 2008-09 season, with 27 points in 42 games played. After a 47-point season while playing every game in 2009-10, Giroux broke out, leading Philly in points with 76 in 2010-11. Ever since then, he has led them in points in the 2011–12, 2013–14, 2015–16, 2017–19, and 2020–21 seasons.
The Panthers will also be receiving depth forward Connor Bunnaman. Bunnaman was drafted 109th overall in the 2016 Entry Draft by the Flyers from the Kitchener Rangers. He has played in 39 NHL games for the Flyers, having a goal and two assists. He has spent most of his time with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
