Florida State will kick off its postseason college basketball run on Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET vs. Syracuse. Presenting a three-game win streak, the Seminoles (17-13, 10-10 ACC) will have the chance to further their late-season March Madness case against the ‘Cuse, with the winner advancing to face off against the ACC’s No. 1 seed Duke. The Orange (15-16, 9-11) have dropped their last four games and are on the brink of their first losing season under legendary head coach Jim Boeheim.
Series History
Syracuse holds a slight edge in the series history with an 8-6 all-time record vs. the ‘Noles. FSU has, however, won four of the last five matchups — a category that includes the last time the two teams faced off on January 15th, 2022, when the Seminoles escaped with a 76-71 victory. The Orange won the season’s first matchup by a tally of 63-60.
Syracuse Season Overview
In Central New York, NCAA Tournament appearances and deep runs are something of a given. This year, however, that wont be case.
As already iterated, the Orange have buoyed themself on the brink of their first losing season under Jim Boeheim, with the coach’s sons — Buddy Boeheim (Guard) and Jimmy Boeheim (Forward) serving as one of the minimal positives of the team. It’s been a mix of injury issues and inconsistent plays under the net, as the center position late in the season has been a real problem.
Player to Watch: G Buddy Boeheim
The son of hall of fame coach Jim Boeheim, Buddy Boeheim boasts the honors of a top-15 scorer in Syracuse basketball history with an average of just over 19 points per game in the 2021-22 season. Boeheim, who was named to the first All-ACC team last week, lead the conference in scoring as well as serving as the keystone piece in the ‘Cuse’s offense. He’s the silver lining of an Orange team that has not faired so well compared to its average standards.
