Kraken Defeat Panthers at Climate Pledge Arena

After two straight wins, the Florida Panthers looked to continue their success on the road as they visited Seattle for the first time ever. The Panthers did not end up prevailing, falling to the Kraken 5-3. Philipp Grubauer was the hero for Seattle making 28 saves to win the game. Mason Appleton also deserves credit in large for the win with a goal and an assist.

Period by Period Recap

The first period saw the Cats strike first with Anthony Duclair scoring on a wrister. However, that would be the only score in the opening period.

Seattle came out strong in the second period in an effort to score some goals. The Kraken opened scoring in this frame with Marcus Johansson snapping the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky. Later on in the frame, Yanni Gourde scored to give the Kraken a 2-1 lead. Seattle wasn’t done there. Just over 10 seconds later, Colin Blackwell scored to make the game 3-1. Florida would respond soon, however. Jonathan Huberdeau scored his 16th of the year on the power play. Not long after, Alexander Barkov scored his team-leading 18th goal of the year to tie the game up at three apiece.

Seattle went into the third looking to regain their lead. That task was completed 26 seconds into the third period as Mason Appleton scored to give the Kraken the 4-3 lead. Later in the final frame, Calle Jarnkrok would score an empty netter to give the Kraken a 5-3 win.

Sergei Bobrovsky went 24-28 with a save percentage of .857%. Phillip Grubauer, meanwhile, went 28-31 with a save percentage of .903%.

The Panthers remain tied with their Sunshine State rivals (the Tampa Bay Lightning) for first place in the Atlantic Division.
