The Florida State Seminoles have won their eighth straight game over their arch-rival Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday night, 65-64. With the loss, the Miami Hurricanes’ nine-game winning streak was snapped, including their first loss in ACC play. With the win, the Seminoles improve to 9-5 (3-2 in the ACC).
Game Recap:
Matthew Cleveland led the way scoring-wise in the Seminoles win, with 15 points. Anthony Polite and RayQuan Evans had 12 and 11 points respectively, including eight rebounds for Polite, along with another eight by Malik Osborne. Caleb Mills had the most assists for the Seminoles with four.
Moore led the scoring for the Hurricanes, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 80 percent from three-point range, and six assists for Miami. Kameron McGusty added on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Isaiah Wong added 10 points and five assists. Jordan Miller also added six rebounds in the loss.
The game started very much in Miami’s favor, with the Canes starting out the game on a 15-7 run. Florida State would come back, but would trail at the half, 29-28.
The second half would be a very back and forth affair. Florida State’s Malik Osborne would hit a three with 27 seconds remaining to give the Seminoles a 63-61 lead. Charlie Moore would miss a driving layup on the other end, but Jordan Miller, after rebounding another missed put-back attempt, would kick it back out to Moore, who hit a corner three to give Miami a one-point lead with seven seconds remaining. A controversial call by the refs would close out the game. Evans was fouled by Moore on a missed tip-in. Evans would then make both free throws to give the Seminoles a 65-64 win.
