The battle of the 2-11 teams in the AFC South will match-up this Sunday in Jacksonville. The Houston Texans, who are coming off a 33-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, will be looking to get a win on a divisional rival. Whereas the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are coming off a 20-0 loss to the Tennessee Titans, will be looking to get a victory over the Texans after Head Coach Urban Meyer was relieved of his duties. Jaguars Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as the interim Head Coach for the remaining four games.
This is a very interesting matchup for both teams, and this will be a much different game then what we saw back in Week 1 when the Texans beat the Jaguars 37-21. Expect this game to be a very low scoring game as both teams rank at the bottom of the league in points per game. The Texans average 13.6 PPG and the Jaguars an abysmal 13.8 as well. Davis Mills, the Texans third round pick, had a very solid game last week vs. Seattle; he completed 33-41 passes, threw for 331 yards and one touchdown. Trevor Lawrence is coming off the worst game of his rookie season where he completed 24-40 passes, threw for 221 yards and four interceptions.
Both the Texans and Jaguars currently hold a pick in the top three of the 2022 NFL draft if the season were to end today, but the Texans hold the tiebreaker because of their Week 1 victory. While both teams are eliminated from playoff contention, they want to win this game for morale and the development of their young players. But winning this game for either team may not be in the best interest of the franchises long-term success. The projected top three players to be selected in this year’s upcoming draft are Aiden Hutchison, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Evan Neal. All three are terrific talents that will probably turn into phenomenal NFL players. But teams always want to position themselves to grab the players they want in the NFL draft, and having an opportunity to select any of these guys is something both the Texans and Jaguars would love to do. Kickoff will be at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville at 1PM EST.
