Dolphins Scratch Cam Newton Alive, Smash Carolina 33-10

The Miami Dolphins continued their winning streak on Sunday afternoon, beating the Carolina Panthers 33-10. With the win, Miami’s winning streak improves to four, and their record now stands at 5-7. The Carolina Panthers also sit at 5-7 with the loss.

Recap

The Dolphins decided to come out and play offense led by their ex-Alabama starters. QB Tua Tagovailoa, who still has some questions to his name, continued to improve his game Sunday, completing 27 of 31 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He was able to do this, even with bad offensive line play. He was sacked a few times and was under pressure most of the game.

WR Jaylen Waddle also had a big day, recording nine receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Both of these big numbers would come against the leagues top passing defense. Myles Gaskin would also have a big day, scoring twice out of the wildcat formation and running for 49 yards. New arrival Phillip Lindsay also ran 12 times for 42 yards. Jason Sanders, meanwhile, would go 2-of-2 on field goals and would complete 3-of-4 PAT attempts.

The Dolphins would open the scoring with a little over nine minutes left in the first quarter when Dolphins LB Duke Riley blocked a Lachlan Edwards punt from their own nine-yard line. CB Justin Coleman would recover the football and cross the goal line to make it 7-0.

The Dolphins defense, simply, came to play and dominated against the Panthers. Cam Newton would have maybe the worst performance of his career, completing only 5 of 21 passes for 92 yards, while throwing two interceptions to Jevon Holland and Xavien Howard. Besides a 64-yard completion to DJ Moore and a one-yard touchdown run to tie the game, Netwon struggled mightily and was pulled for PJ Walker in the fourth quarter. Walker would complete 5 of 10 passes for 87 yards and add another interception, this time to Nik Needham. Another notable stat-line on defense was rookie, and ex-Miami Hurricane, Jaelan Phillips. He has been coming into his own; Phillips had three sacks on the day.
