The Miami Hurricanes finished out the 2021 regular season with a huge win, defeating Duke in Durham, 47-10. Wide receivers Charleston Rambo and Mike Harley broke multiple records Saturday, while Tyler Van Dyke continued to show out. Van Dyke completed 34 of 49 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, Miami improves to 7-5 overall, with a 5-3 record in the ACC.
Miami:
Despite a slow start in the first quarter, and being down 10-3, Miami went on a 44-0 run to end the game. The Hurricanes would have a 10-play, 75-yard drive, which would be capped off by a wide-open 21-yard touchdown catch by Xavier Restrepo.
Charleston Rambo would have another great day, with eight receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns. With Rambo’s day on Saturday, the Hurricanes single-season records for receptions and receiving yards now belong to Rambo. Rambo has 79 receptions for 1,171 yards and seven TDs this season. The single-season reception record was previously held by Leonard Hankerson with 72 in 2010. Rambo would also break Allen Hurns’ previous record of receiving yards of 1,162 yards in 2013. Rambo would also have a must-see one-handed touchdown catch from 14 yards out.
Mike Harley would also have a great day, with 13 receptions for 96 yards. Mike Harley would also break a Miami Hurricanes WR record, breaking Reggie Wayne’s record with 182 all-time receptions.
Jaylan Knighton and Thad Franklin would each have a rushing touchdown, while Jacolby George had three receptions for 80 yards. Andres Borregales went 3-of-3 on field goal attempts. Marcus Clarke would also have an interception late in the fourth quarter.
Miami would eventually out-yard Duke 530-219.
Duke:
With the loss on Saturday, Duke finished 3-9 (0-8 in the ACC). They have also lost 23 of their last 29 games.
Miami held Duke star RB, Matheo Durant, to only 69 yards on 20 carries. QB Gunnar Holmberg completed 20 of 33 passes for 148 yards and an interception.
Other than a Charlie Ham 40-yard field goal and a Jaylen Stinson 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Duke would not be able to do much.
Concluding Thoughts/Recap:
Miami’s OC Rhett Lashlee will be accepting the head coaching job at SMU, who will be replacing Sonny Dykes, who took the job at TCU. Miami is still looking for an AD and the new AD will decide whether Manny Diaz will stay as head coach in 2022.
Next up for the Canes, it’s bowl season. That will be decided on December 5th. Miami will likely be participating in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, New Era Pinstripe Bowl, or the Gasparilla Bowl.
