Panthers Continue Hot Home Streak, Defeat Flyers 2-1

It was a special night in Sunrise, Florida as the Philadelphia Flyers came into town to face-off against the red-hot Florida Panthers. This Thanksgiving eve was full of high-flying action, physical play, great goaltending, and most importantly a Florida Panthers home victory in overtime. This win at home ties an NHL record for most consecutive home wins without a loss to start an NHL season.

Recap

The first period was mostly all Panthers but after one breakaway chance, the Flyers struck first 7:33 into the first period. The goal from the Flyers was scored by #86 Joel Farabee. This would be the only goal the Flyers made throughout the entire game. They had opportunities, multiple times, however, Panthers starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky shut the Flyers offense down in a huge way. Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 33 shots. Meanwhile, Martin Jones was excellent for the Flyers. Jones stopped 43 of the Panthers’ 45 shots.

Florida’s goals both came from the top line. In the third period, forward Sam Bennett deflected a great pass by Anthony Duclair on the power play to tie the game at one. Then, in overtime, Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad finished off a one-timer from forward Jonathan Huberdeau top shelf on Jones.
