Randy Arozarena Wins AL Rookie of the Year

Randy Arozarena has won the 2021 American League Rookie of the Year Award. Arozarena received 22 of 30 first-place votes after leading the Rays to an AL East title. The 26-year-old beat out fellow Tampa Bay Rays teammate Wander Franco and Luis Garcia.

Randy Arozarena is the 6th Cuban-born player and 4th Rays player to win Rookie of the Year. Also, Randy Arozarena is the 3rd player since 2000 to win Rookie of the Year in their 3rd MLB season or later, joining Geovany Soto (NL ROY in 2008, his 4th MLB season) and Ángel Berroa (AL ROY in 2003, his 3rd MLB season).

In 2021, Arozarena had a 20-20 season with a .274 batting average, 20 home runs, 69 RBI’s, and a 4.2 WAR.

The 2020 postseason hero is the first Rays player to win the award since Wil Myers in 2013.
