Game one of the ALDS featured the Tampa Bay Rays blanking the Boston Red Sox 5-0. Game two was a complete turnaround as the Red Sox exploded for 14 runs and 20 hits. The series is now all tied up as both teams head to Boston for Game three on Sunday night. The star player of the game goes to Red Sox Center Fielder Kike Hernandez. Hernandez totaled five hits and drove in three runs in what was a career night for him.
Recap
The first inning featured a great amount of the game’s offense as the Red Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. SS Xander Bogaerts and LF Alex Verdugo singled in back-to-back at-bats. In the bottom of the first, Rays First Baseman Jordan Luplow countered in a huge way with a grand slam to put the Rays on top 5-2.
As the game went on, the Red Sox jumped on every opportunity they could. In a successful attempt to come back, the Sox attacked for five home runs throughout the game. Those long balls were thanks to Xander Bogaerts, Alex Verdugo, Kike Hernandez, J.D. Martinez, and Rafael Devers.
After the first inning, the Rays were held to just one run over eight innings. Pitching was the biggest issue for the Rays as they could not find consistent outs throughout the whole game. Rays rookie pitcher Shane Baz felt the butterflies of his first postseason start. Baz pitched for only 2.1 innings while allowing three runs on six hits. Baz struck out only two batters.
