Diego Castillo Traded To Mariners

The Tampa Bay Rays have traded reliever Diego Castillo to the Seattle Mariners. The Rays are reportedly acquiring 3B Austin Shenton and RHP JT Chargois as part of the deal.

Castillo, 27, is 2-4 this season with 14 saves and a 2.72 ERA in 37 games. The Dominican Republic native currently ranks in the 98th percentile for both xwOBA and xERA according to Baseball Savant.

Shenton, 23, attended Florida International University. This season in 67 games between High-A Everett (57 G) and Double-A Arkansas (10 G), he is batting .300 with 61 runs, 29 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, and 61 RBI’s.

Chargois, 30, was signed to a minor-league contract in February. The 30-year-old held opponents to a .618 OPS in 30 innings pitched. He also went 1–0 with a 3.00 ERA.
