Trevor Rogers and Marlins Top Phillies 3-1

The Miami Marlins were not particularly impressed with their bullpen’s performance on Tuesday night, but they sure learned from their miscues on Wednesday, as their bullpen slammed the door amid adversity to seal a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Marlins Catching Fire

Trevor Rogers has been incredible to start this season, with a 6-2 record so far. He faced little to no pushback from the Phillies offense. He did get offensive support from his team, as he went out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Brian Anderson launched a 309-foot bomb to right field. What a birthday present for Brian Anderson, who turned 28 on Wednesday night. Later on, the Marlins gave Trevor some more run support when Adam Duvall drove in the Phillies’ Killer, Miguel Rojas, on a single to left, putting the Marlins up 2-0. But, Andrew McCutchen responded with a bomb to left field and plated the first Phillies run of the game. Then, Jazz Chisholm brought home another run on an infield single, scoring Garrett Cooper as the Fish took a 3-1 lead.

Rogers ended up pitching seven and two-thirds while only allowing five hits and one run on 98 pitches. Zach Eflin took the mound for the Phillies, and did just fine, allowing two runs in just six innings of work. Eflin struck out six Marlins batters and walked none. The Phillies tallied just seven hits compared to the Marlins 11 hits.

The Marlins will face the Phillies tomorrow with the chance to take the series. Citizens Bank Park should be hot again, with the weather at a balmy 75 degrees. Vince Velasquez will hit the bump for the Phillies, while Sandy Alcantara will attempt to follow Trevor Rogers’ lead on Thursday night.
