Travis Etienne Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s a Clemson reunion in Jacksonville.

Travis Etienne

Sure, Trevor Lawrence’s first overall selection rightfully earned most of Thursday night’s hype, but let’s not be too quick to glance over the Jacksonville Jaguars selection of Travis Etienne with the 25th pick. A former teammate of Lawrence, Etienne established himself over his career as arguably the best running back in ACC football history. The Clemson RB racked up some of college football’s most prestigious and notables titles, including: ACC player of the year (twice), ACC offensive player of the year (twice), ACC all-time career rush yard leader (4,952), ACC career total TD leader (78), and much more.

In his senior and ultimately final season at Clemson, Etienne ran the ball an impressive 168 times for 914 yards and 14 TDs. The strong final college campaign helped further associate himself among the top running backs in college football.

Concluding Thoughts

While the RB position may not have qualified as a top need for the Jaguars, Etienne’s selection should have an overall positive benefit on the team’s offensive strength. James Robinson and Carlos Hyde are decent, but in no way qualify as a top RB duo in the NFL. However, now with Etienne on his way to Duval County, the Jags have some more breathing room at the all important position.

Not to mention, Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne have already shown to possess perfect chemistry with each other in college. There’s no reason to suggest why that won’t carry over into the NFL. Now, it’s only a matter of time before this duo starts setting records at the pro level, too.
