Miami Dolphins Trade No. 3 Draft Pick

In a shocking series of moves that involved a shuffling of three picks, the Miami Dolphins moved back and gained some assets along the way, as they traded back to No. 12 in a deal with the 49ers. Shortly thereafter, Miami made a trade with the Eagles to acquire the 6th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Here’s how the trades went down:

With the No. 3 Pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jimmy Garrapolo’s future in Santa Clara is uncertain.

Out of the blue on Friday afternoon, the Dolphins decided to move back in the 2021 NFL Draft. So the Dolphins traded the No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick (SF’s comp pick for Robert Saleh hiring), and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.

The Eagles failed to trade for the third pick in the draft, so they decided to stock up on some picks, trading with the Miami Dolphins. By doing so, Miami sent their recently acquired No. 12 pick, No. 123 and their 2022 first-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for the No. 6 and No. 156 picks.

The Eagles, meanwhile, could now have as many as three first-round picks in next year’s draft, depending on how much quarterback Carson Wentz plays for the Indianapolis Colts this season. This trade should also confirm for Philadelphia that Jalen Hurts is their QB for 2021, and maybe for good.

The two trades that occurred on Friday will shift a lot of teams’ approach to the draft, no doubt, but it will only serve as an appetizer to what should be a wild draft night on April 29th.
