Magic Stun the Nets 121-113, Avoid 10 Game Skid

The Orlando Magic stunned the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, avoiding their 10th straight loss. Being at the center of trade talks and rumors around the entirety of the league, Aaron Gordon had something to prove. Making the case why the Magic should look to build around him as a key franchise piece, Gordon led the way in this matchup, scoring a season-high 38 points, nine of which came in the game’s first six minutes, helping Orlando jump off to an early lead. Gordon shot the cover off the ball, shooting 14-for-20 overall and a very impressive 7-for-8 from beyond the arc. Similarly, Evan Fournier shined in this matchup. Fournier added 31 points, hitting six of his eight three-point attempts. And as usual, Nikola Vucevic had yet another double-double, scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Aaron Gordon: “This is a big step in the right direction.”

Brooklyn Nets

Despite the Nets’ loss, Kyrie Irving dropped 43 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Irving joined James Harden to become the first Nets teammates to go for 40+ in back-to-back games. But besides Irving, that was it for Brooklyn. James Harden had 19 points and nine assists, while Joe Harris added 16. But Harden shot 4-for-15 overall, and 2-for-8 from three-point range. And Harris, who was hitting 50 percent from deep this season, was just 3-for-13, including an airball.

“I think James and Joe felt fatigue. They had a heavy burden against Indiana, so I think those two for sure felt some fatigue in their legs,” coach Steve Nash said. “Sometimes you can play really, really hard and be really, really active, but that doesn’t mean your legs are gonna be there in your shot.”
