Free Agency Targets for the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins, who went 10-6 last year and just barely missed the playoffs, have a chance to fill the holes on their roster through Free Agency.

Aaron Jones, RB

If Green Bay doesn’t use the franchise tag or sign Aaron Jones, then he is a huge name to hit the market. In the 2018 season, it was thought that he might’ve been a 5th round steal after rushing for 728 yards on 133 attempts. He then proved his star status by posting back-to-back 1000+ yard seasons in 2019 and 2020, with almost half of those yards coming after contact. Myles Gaskin showed flashes of promise in the 2020 season, but it is unknown if he can be a 3-down back. Adding Aaron Jones to the Dolphins’ backfield would give them exactly that. Miami would be able to rely on Jones to be the feature back, and use Gaskin as a change-of-pace back or as a passing back.

Will Fuller, WR

The Dolphins must get more weapons on the outside to help their Year 2 QB, assuming that Tua Tagovailoa will be at the helm in 2021. Will Fuller is a receiver that a team might get for a cheap contract, but presents a high ceiling. Fuller hasn’t recorded a 1000-yard season since he spent his first four years being the #2 WR behind DeAndre Hopkins. He then posted 879 yards on 53 catches as the #1 receiver for the Houston Texans. He would most likely go into the #2 role in Miami behind DeVante Parker. This could be perfect for Fuller, who excels in this role. Other than possibly returning punts, he would do everything that Jakeem Grant does for the Dolphins but better.

Chris Godwin, WR

Will Fuller is a great deep threat, but Godwin is a better one. Chris Godwin has shown on the field and on paper that he is a better and more athletic receiver than Fuller. Godwin has gone for over 800 yards in each of the past 3 seasons. Not to mention he has spent most of that time being the #2 WR behind Mike Evans. Godwin has shown to be better than most at getting open downfield, averaging over 14 yards per reception. Godwin would fit well as part of the Dolphins offense, giving Tua a reliable target. The Dolphins should be one of the first teams to call Godwin, but it is unlikely that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will let him test the waters of free agency.
