The Miami Dolphins Release Kyle Van Noy

In an effort to reduce cap space, the Miami Dolphins have released Kyle Van Noy. The 29 year-old linebacker signed a 4-year deal worth $51 million with the Dolphins in March of 2020 after leaving the New England Patriots. However, the seemingly match made in heaven came to a screeching halt on Tuesday, as Van Noy is now a free agent. The two-time Super Bowl champion expressed his disbelief almost immediately after receiving the news, making it imminent that he was disappointed in his departure from the team.

As Van Noy stated, “I am surprised and disappointed in their decision. As a captain, I gave my all to the team. I fought through a painful hip injury during the season, including spending a night in the hospital after a game. I was brought there to be a leader and I know my teammates looked up to and respected me. I am looking forward to making an impact on my next team, on and off the field.”

The Future Aftermath of the Breakup

Van Noy does make a point, as he had 69 combined tackles and 6 sacks in his tenure with Miami. The linebacker did this all during a season in which he played through injury. His valiant efforts even earned him the honor of being AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 13.

Shockingly enough, the Dolphins did not even reach out to Van Noy for the possibility of reworking a new deal. However, by cutting Van Noy, the Dolphins will receive an additional $10 million in cap space. This should help the team build up their offense in free agency, which still currently has multiple position gaps. Although it came as unexpected, this deal will most likely make sense in the long run.

As for Kyle Van Noy, expect for him to find a new home soon enough. Many people have thrown the idea of a return to New England, meaning he might not leave the AFC East. However, as of right now, that qualifies as speculation only. Either way, many residents of the Sunshine State will miss his contributions to the beloved Dolphins.
