Logan Hutsko Signs ELC with Florida Panthers

On Monday afternoon, Logan Hutsko signed an Entry Level Contract with the Florida Panthers. The contract will begin next season, holding a value of $925,000 over two years. Hutsko is currently playing his senior season with Boston College. Hutsko is also a Tampa, Florida native.

Who is Logan Hutsko?

In high school, Logan Hutsko played for world famous Shattuck St.-Mary’s school in Faribault, Minnesota. Hutsko played 3 years for SSM, in which he scored 239 points in 181 games. Additionally, Hutsko lead the team in points in his final season. In Logan’s time at SSM, he played alongside Clayton Keller, Ryan Lindgren and many other college standouts.

Following Hutsko’s time at SSM, the Tampa native went on to play at the USNTDP. In 2 seasons with the USNTDP, Hutsko put up 9 points in 22 USHL games. In Hutsko’s time with the USNTDP, he gained plenty of experience, playing with many current NHL players.

The SSM product played for one of the best college hockey programs in the nation, Boston College. Prior to the NHL Draft, Hutsko played his freshman season at Boston College in the 2017-18 season. That year, he lead the team with 31 points in 37 games, leading to a 1st place Hockey East finish in the regular season. Although they finished 1st in the regular season, a semifinal playoff loss caused the team to miss the national tournament. Following the season, Hutsko was drafted 89th overall by the Florida Panthers.

In Logan’s Sophomore and Junior season with Boston College, he scored 59 points in 66 games. Sophomore year, Boston College finished 7th out of 11 teams, but they made a surprise run to the Hockey East finals. Once again though, Boston College did not make the tournament. Boston College finished first in the division in 2019-20, but COVID-19 cancelled postseason tournaments.

Boston College is currently first in the Hockey East with a 15-4-1 record. Logan Hutsko, however, has only played 11 of those games, in which he scored 11 points. The 89th overall pick, wrapped up his season back in February due to a lingering ankle injury.

Hutsko’s Effect on the Panthers

Hutsko’s gameplay details a solid playmaker. His career has seen about a 2:3 ratio between goals and assists. In the near future, Logan will likely be an AHL player, with a couple NHL chances sprinkled in due to injuries. It is important Hutsko is given time to develop in the AHL as a top line player, before jumping into NHL action. It will also be smart to allow Hutsko some NHL experience if he can fill in the top 9. With his upside being a top 9 forward, it is smart to let the 3rd rounder develop and hop in when the time is right. The only worry for the Boston College prospect’s future is injuries. Hutsko has held a lingering ankle injury, as well as a neck injury and a bad fall in the past.
