The Miami Heat used a 14-4 run in the final three minutes to help defeat the Atlanta Hawks 109-99 on Sunday night. With the win, the Heat improve to 17-17 overall (5th in the Eastern Conference), the first time that Miami has had a .500 record since January 9th when the Heat were 4-4 overall. Meanwhile, the Hawks fall to 14-20 overall, two games back from the 8th seed in the East.
Miami was without star forward Jimmy Butler for this contest due to a knee injury, but received an outstanding performance from the red-hot Kendrick Nunn. Nunn finished the game with 24 points on 8/15 shooting with 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Miami also got a double-double from Bam Adebayo who finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, as well as 14 points a piece from Tyler Herro and Precious Achiuwa.
The Hawks got a dominant performance from John Collins who finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds. Atlanta also received a double-double from Clint Capela who finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds, as well as a near triple-double from star guard Trae Young, who finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Miami’s Late Run
After Hawks forward John Collins hit a corner three to tie the game at 95, Miami went on a 14-4 run over the final three minutes. This included two massive 3’s from Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn, as well as the Heat going 6/6 from the free throw line.
The Heat will return to the court on Tuesday night, March 2nd, at 7:30 pm EST as they will face the Hawks once again in what will be the first of their two final games before the All-Star break. Can Miami extend their win streak to seven games?
