Tampa Bay Lightning Defeat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1

On Friday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1. Tampa Bay had their 4th straight win, while Detroit had an abysmal 8th straight loss. Tampa’s victory was its 16th consecutive victory over the Red Wings at Amalie Arena, and 18th win in the last 19 games against the Wings overall.

Vladislav Namestnikov scored the games first goal while on the power play. Patrick Maroon would score the next goal, 14 minutes into the first period, to tie the game at one.

Late in the second period, Barclay Goodrow would score the tie-breaking goal for the Lightning, to put the Bolts up 2-1.

Then in the 3rd, Goodrow scored his 2nd goal of the night, an empty-netter, to wrap up the game. Goodrow’s second goal of the game was the 6,000th goal in Lightning franchise history.

“We didn’t have the right approach, we didn’t play well,” said Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. “We gave them a lot of scoring chances and made it easy for them. But I thought we did a really good job in the third period, the boys just dialed in and shut them down.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy picked up the win after stopping 27 out of 28 shots faced. Vasilevskiy now has a 1.88 GAA and a .931 SV% in 9 games played. Red Wings goalie Thomas Greiss who got pulled after allowing three goals on six shots in Wednesday’s loss, stopped 29 out of 31 shots. Greiss has a 3.27 GAA and a .892 SV%.

The Lightning have now won six straight home games to start the season, tying the longest in franchise history.

The Lightning now improve to 7-1-1 and with the Panthers loss on Thursday, move to first in the Central Division. Tampa’s next game comes against the Nashville Predators on Monday at 8:00 PM . And for the Red Wings, they look to snap their losing streak against the Florida Panthers on Monday at 3:00 PM.
