Panthers Continue Point Streak, Improve to 5-0-1

The Florida Panthers continued their 6 game point streak after the 3-2 win over the Red Wings. The Panthers are now 5-0-1, their best start to a season since 1996. On the other hand, the Detroit Red Wings lost their 6th straight game, now sitting at 2-6-2.

Game Recap:

Florida started out the night very slowly, being short-handed twice in the first 5 minutes, and allowing the opening goal to Detroit’s Dylan Larkin. The scoring started early in the 2nd period for Florida on a power play goal from Patric Hornqvist, with the assist from Jonathan Huberdeau and Keith Yandle. Florida got on the board again to take its first lead late in the 2nd period off of an Aaron Ekblad goal, again assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau and Keith Yandle. In the middle of the 3rd, Carter Verhaeghe scored the icing on the cake to make it 3-1. Detroit tried to make a late push but ultimately came up short, losing 3-2 in regulation.

New Additions

The Florida Panthers new additions have been terrific this season. Patric Hornqvist, who last played for the Penguins, has 5 goals in 6 games for the Cats. Another new addition, Carter Verhaeghe, who last played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, also has 5 goals in 6 games. Both additions are tied for the team lead in goals. Now onto assists, newcomer Anthony Duclair leads the team with 6 assists. Duclair was an All-Star last year on the Ottawa Senators.

Chris Driedger

Chris Driedger had yet another great game as the Panthers starting goalie. Driedger and Sergei Bobrovsky have been switching off as the Cats’ starting goalies. But so far through 6 games, Dreidger has been the better goalie. So far, Chris Driedger has a .937 SV% while Bobrovsky has a .894 SV%. Both goalies have started 3 games.
