Jaguars Offensive and Defensive Coordinator Candidates

With the hire of Urban Meyer, the Jaguars have entered a new era, one in which the staff will be turned over and selected to Meyer’s choosing. Here are some candidates for the jobs.

Jay Gruden could also stay on as the Jaguars OC, but that seems unlikely with Urban Meyer wanting to assemble his own staff.

Jaguars Offensive Coordinator Candidates

Anthony Lynn

Anthony Lynn’s name has been floated around in Jacksonville, and he could potentially find a job as the OC there. Meyer has been looking for some former NFL head coaches to fill coaching roles for the Jaguars and Lynn does that. He’s had NFL success and could find some here. The Seahawks have also shown interest in Lynn.

In 65 games as a HC in the NFL (Bills and Chargers), Lynn has a career coaching record of 33-32.

Scott Linehan

Linehan is an experienced coach, who has held many NFL and College jobs. While he has been passed around, Linehan is a veteran who has had some success. His last NFL job was as the Cowboys OC from 2015-18, helping lead an attack lead by Ezekiel Elliot and Dak Prescott. But he most recently was the passing coordinator for LSU. Linehan could be Meyer’s right hand man and help develop Trevor Lawrence. He seems like the favorite so far.

Mike Kafka

Kafka, a former backup QB, is the Chiefs QB’s Coach and has helped develop Patrick Mahomes after being promoted to QB’s Coach in 2o18.  He might not want to leave his KC job, as Eric Bienemy looks like he might get a HC job which would put Kafka in position to be the Chiefs OC. If Bienemy stays on, which seems unlikely but wouldn’t be surprising, Kafka could be an option for Jacksonville.

Jaguars Defensive Coordinator Candidates

Raheem Morris

The Jaguars have been in contact with Raheem Morris for the DC job, and they even gave him an interview for the HC job. Morris was the Falcons interim coach and put a little life into them after Dan Quinn was fired. He seems like the most likely after reports of the Jaguars “eyeing” him have come in over the past couple days. Morris has also been the Buccaneers HC and has had many roles with the Falcons. Along with that he was Washington’s DB’s coach. Morris clearly has caught the eye of the Jaguars and could be the next Jaguars DC in a number of days.

Joe Cullen

Joe Cullen is another contender for the Jaguars DC job. He has been the Ravens D-Line coach for the last few years, and also coached the Buccaneers D-Line. Cullen is also a former college nose tackle, playing for U-Mass in the 1980’s. The Ravens D-Line has been very good for the last few years, and he could get a DC position this year.

Wade Phillips

Phillips is a very experienced coach who was the DC when the Rams went to the Super Bowl in 2018. He is on the older side but could get the best out of the Jaguars defense. He has a great track record and could be a short-term option for the Jaguars.

Who have the Jaguars Hired Already?

The Jaguars have already hired Charlie Strong as their LB’s coach, and Ryan Stamper as their director of player assessment. Strong worked at USF last, and Stamper worked with Meyer at the University of Florida.
