Should the Marlins Sign Joc Pederson?

Long time Dodger, Joc Pederson, has now fully embraced free agency. 2021 will be Pederson’s 8th season in the MLB, but will it be his first season not in a Dodgers uniform?

Joc Pederson

In 2010, the Dodgers took Joc Pederson late in the 11th round. Pederson is a former All Star (2015) and World Series Champ (2020), looking to bring his leadership and skill to an MLB team this offseason.

Last season, Pederson had one of his worst years. He batted .190 and had a .681 OPS, with only 7 home runs in 121 at bats. But in his career, Pederson owns a .806 OPS.

Although the stats may not look good, Pederson possesses a lot of power at the plate, even participating in multiple Home Run Derby’s.

Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins had a great 2020 season leading all the way to the playoffs where they swept the Cubs in the Wild Card Round. They did that with a great set of outfielders. But why not add another outfielder to the clubhouse?

Pederson is a high bargain coming from the Dodgers with a World Series ring. In 2020, he had a 1 year deal with the Dodgers for $7,750,000. But the Marlins can likely get him for much cheaper, as his value went down.

The Marlins already have two great outfielders in Starling Marte (CF) and Corey Dickerson (LF). They are just missing that third outfielder to seal the deal, and it’s preferably a lefty like Pederson.

Other OF options can possibly be Adam Duvall or Yasiel Puig. Or maybe one of the Marlins young outfielders including Lewis Brinson, Monte Harrison, and others.

Last season, the Marlins used a lot of different right fielders including Harold Ramirez, Jon Berti, and more. But with a signing of Joc Pederson, that likely locks down that 3rd outfield spot.
