On Wednesday night, the Florida Gators took on the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl. Coming into this game the Florida Gators were down 17 players due to Covid-19 and opt outs. These included the Gators top 3 wide receivers and star TE Kyle Pitts. On the year Pitts had 43 rec, 770 yards, and 12 TD’s. Kadarius Toney the explosive (as some say the Human Joystick) slot receiver was the other main target for Trask. On the year, Toney had 70 rec, 984 yards, and 10 TD’s. Although the Gators had tons of key players out, there is no excuse for losing 55-20. Kyle Trask the Heisman finalist quarterback threw three interceptions on the first three drives.
Florida Gators QB Situation
Kyle Trask could not get anything going during the Cotton Bowl. He completed 16 passes for 158 yards while throwing 3 interceptions. He did so bad that they benched him and put in the backup QB Emory Jones. On the night, Emory Jones threw for 86 yards. He also rushed for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. After Emory Jones’ rush touchdown, he was seen vomiting in the endzone. This was Kyle Trask’s first ever college game without a TD. Trask has still not told the public whether he is staying with Florida for 2021 or entering the NFL Draft.
Struggles
The Gators struggled on all aspects of the football in this game. They struggled to score on offense and they struggled to stop the score on defense. Although many players were missing on the defense, Todd Grantham is at blame. Grantham, the Gators defensive coordinator, struggled all season long to get the defense to the level the offense was on. The defense struggled all season long and continued to let teams score against them. Against Oklahoma, the Gators defense allowed 684 total yards, along with 435 rushing yards.
