The Tampa Bay Rays signed right handed pitcher Michael Wacha to a 1 year, $3M dollar deal.
Michael Wacha
Former All Star and ALCS MVP is headed to the Tampa Bay Rays, with a good shot at rejuvenating his career. Tampa Bay is known for making pitchers better and that is a well-needed thing for Wacha. Wacha signed with the New York Mets last offseason on a one year deal, and didn’t pitch that well.
Last year, Michael Wacha was 1-4, with a 6.62 ERA in 34 innings. At the age of 29, Wacha has a career record of 60-43, with a 4.01 ERA. In 2015, Wacha was an All Star after racking up 17 wins and 7 losses as well as a 3.38 ERA. Wacha gives the Rays an experienced starter as part of the rotation, especially after losing Charlie Morton this offseason. The Rays are also considering trading Blake Snell which makes this signing even more important.
Rays Projected Rotation
- Blake Snell
- Tyler Glasnow
- Ryan Yarbrough
- Josh Fleming
- Michael Wacha
Injuries have taken their toll on Wacha throughout his career and certainly been detrimental to his success on the mound. But the Rays are known for turning solid pitchers into All Stars, so expect a lot from him, as he tries to fill the void of Charlie Morton.
