Nashville Hands Florida a 6-5 OT Loss

The Florida Panthers fell short on Thursday night, in a 6-5 overtime loss to Nashville. A back and forth game saw the Panthers pull ahead after two periods. Nashville, however, made a comeback late in the third period to win the game in overtime. Florida was still able to pick up a point, to keep their point streak alive (7 games).

After the Panthers and Predators traded goals to start, Nashville fell behind 5-3 before scoring twice in the final 2:06 to force overtime.

Jonathan Huberdeau had arguably the best game of his career, despite the loss. Huberdeau had a hat trick along with two points, summing up a 5 point night.

Huberdeau on his 1st-career hat trick: “I’m happy to get it out of the way, first one. But it would have been just nice to get a win tonight. I think we should’ve won that one, a tough one to lose. We’re back it tomorrow, but a tough one tonight.”

Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators also had a 5 point night, with two goals and three assists. Forsberg had the game-winning goal in overtime, scoring on a breakaway with one minute left.

Juuse Saros started for Nashville, allowing five goals on 24 shots. Pekka Rinne who came in for relief, stopped all 12 shots, coming up huge in the final minutes.

For the Panthers, Sergei Bobrovsky finished with 35 saves on 41 shots, allowing six goals. Bobrovsky is now 3-0-1, with a .881 SV% and 3.57 GAA.

The Florida Panthers face the Nashville Predators again on Friday at 7:00 PM.

Expect backup Chris Driedger, who has outplayed Bobrovsky in the early going, to man the crease for Florida in Friday’s rematch. Driedger has played well, with a .937 SV% and 1.95 GAA in 3 games so far (2-0-1).
