Miami Loses Wide Receivers Coach to Georgia

Miami Hurricanes wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon is expected to depart for the University of Georgia, per reports.

McClendon, a former piece of Coach Mario Cristobal’s Oregon staff, made the move to Coral Gables just a few weeks prior, signing with the program on January 5th. He was originally set to fill in for Rob Likens — Miami’s previous receivers coach — who departed from the program after taking a job as the assistant head coach at SMU.

Returning to his alma mater (graduating class of 2005), McClendon will meet the needs of the Dawgs’ next receivers instructor. He’s already worked with the program in a separate stint, which saw him do jobs including running backs coach (2009-14) and receivers coach (2015). That tenure precluded positions at South Carolina (2016-19) and a tenure in Eugene (2020-21).

McClendon’s weapons arsenal at Georgia will encapsulate some of the biggest names in the country, with Adonai Mitchell, Ladd McConkey and Kearis Jackson highlighting the group. He also has access to three other receivers signed by the Dawgs in their No. 2-ranked 2022 recruiting class.

Coach Cristobal — now without a receivers coach in the heat of national signing day — has yet to name a replacement.
