Kennesaw State Hands UNF Fifth Straight Loss

The atmosphere was electric at UNF Arena as the North Florida Ospreys had a solid first half of play and got the crowd going.

In the first half, UNF was shooting the ball at a solid rate going 12-30 from the field and 6-17 from deep. The Ospreys also had six blocks. The Kennesaw State Owls, meanwhile, played great defensively and came out with a lot of energy, creating nine first-half steals on the defensive end. UNF went into halftime leading the Owls 34-28.

UNF came out flat to start the second half and Kennesaw State capitalized and went on a 15-4 run. After being down seven, UNF hit two critical threes with 4:54 remaining to cut the deficit to one as the Owls lead (54-55). Towards the end of the game, both teams played the free throw game, and both teams failed to capitalize at the charity stripe. The Owls and Ospreys combined for 18 missed free throws in the game. UNF had an opportunity to win the game at the buzzer with a half-court shot by Jarius Hicklen that nearly went in as it hit the backboard and rimmed out.

The Kennesaw State Owls came into Monday’s matchup vs. the UNF Ospreys on a hot streak where they had outscored their last two opponents 89-47 in the second half. The Ospreys, meanwhile, came in on a four-game losing skid and were looking to get their first ASUN Conference win of the season, but fell just short, losing 60-62.

The red-hot Owls are now on a four-game winning streak, improving their overall record to 8-8 with a perfect conference record of 3-0. The Ospreys have now lost five consecutive games, are 0-5 in conference play, and drop to 4-14 on the season.

Hicklen led all UNF scorers on the night with 17 points (5-10 from three). Chris Youngblood led all Kennesaw State scorers with 16 points (6-13 from the field) and was a +8 when on the court.

The Ospreys will travel to FSU to take on the Seminoles this Thursday afternoon in a Sunshine State matchup at noon (eastern).
