Both the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars came into Week 15 with a 2-11 record. The Jaguars were looking to make amends and come out with a strong performance after their former Head Coach Urban Meyer had been fired earlier this week. However, the Texans were able to take care of business Sunday, getting their second win over the Jaguars this season, 30-16.
Recap
The Texans were able to jump out to an early lead and take advantage of Jacksonville’s miscues. After the Jaguars caused an early defensive three and out on the first drive for Houston, they got a penalty on 4th down that allowed the Texans to get a first down. The Texans proceeded to go down the length of the field and score an opening drive touchdown. The Texans also took advantage of special teams play by getting a first-half kick return for a touchdown. Davis Mills completed 19/30 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Brandin Cooks had another impressive game vs. the Jaguars with seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
The Jaguars had their opportunities to get back into the game but failed to convert in the red zone on far too many occasions. Also, the Jaguars did not help themselves out, especially on third down, where they were very lackluster, only converting 3-14. Trevor Lawrence completed 22/38 passes but had zero touchdowns and zero turnovers. James Robinson had a nice bounce-back game with 18 carries for 75 yards and one rushing touchdown. Jaguars second-round pick Tyson Campbell, who has really played well these last few weeks, had another impressive game vs. Houston. Campbell had fourĀ tackles, two pass deflections, and one interception to get his second interception of his rookie campaign.
Looking Ahead
With this Jaguars loss and the Detroit Lions (unexpected) win over the Arizona Cardinals, the Jaguars hold the number one overall pick yet again. If the Jaguars lose out the last three games of the season, they will have the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Jaguars will get prepared for the New York Jets this week as they will begin a two-game road trip.
